Tree Pruning, Removal and Stump Grinding Services

Specifications include, but are not limited to: 4.6 PRUNING PROCEDURESWhile pruning, the most important tasks shall be to reduce potentially hazardous conditions in trees,and improve tree structure by:A. Removing dead, dying, or diseased branches.;B. Reducing the weight of branches or stems with included bark.;C. Reducing the weight toward the ends of all but one codominant stem.;4.7 GENERAL PROCEDURESA. Dead branches greater than 1.0 inch in diameter (measured at the base of the branch) shall beremoved from the canopy of all trees.;B. No live branches greater than 8 inches diameter shall be removed from the tree withoutauthorization from the Town.;C. Remove no more than 25-30 percent of live foliage from the tree unless indicated below andapproved by a Town of Davie representative.;4.8 THINNINGAlthough small diameter limbs may be pruned where the contractor desires, it will not be necessary tomake cuts smaller than one (1) inch in diameter, other than where branches may be shortened toaccommodate clearance beneath the canopy.Thinning is to include the following: Remove dead or broken limbs one (1) inch in diameter or larger; if two limbs are crossing ortouch each other, shorten, or remove one of them; if two limbs originate within six inches ofeach other on the trunk, shorten or remove one of them.; Clearance from buildings, lights, or other structures should be a minimum of five feet (5) or aspractical.; Use directional pruning where possible so future growth is directed away from buildings andlights.;4.9 CROWN RISING AND LIFTINGBranches over paved areas should be shortened or removed to allow approximately fourteen feet (14)of clearance for cars and delivery vans as practical. Over landscape areas and sidewalks, they shouldalso be shortened or removed to allow eight feet (8) for pedestrian traffic and utility use aspractical. Shortening of branches may be used for attaining adequate clearance. When pruning iscompleted, approximately one-half of the foliage should originate from branches on the lower two-thirdsof each tree.A special category for this service will be priced separately on the Bid Form. This will apply to situationswhere that is the only pruning task needed on the tree.;4.15 STUMP GRINDINGA. Stump grinding (including exposed surface roots) and shall be ground down four (4) inchesbelow grade wherever possible.;B. Excess grounded chips after filling holes shall be removed from the site at the expense of thecontractor.;C. No holes shall be left at any site unless a barricade is placed over the hole.;D. No stumps shall be left on site unless barricaded or painted for visibility until completelyremoved.
