Project is a feasibility study to assess the beneficial reuse of up to 20 MGD of highly treated reclaimed water from the City ofTampas Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant to recharge the aquifer adjacent to the Tampa Bypass Canal using RapidInfiltration Basins and wetland restoration. The study will identify and address regulatory requirements, evaluate the technicalfeasibility of Rapid Infiltration Basins and restoration of wetlands, determine the potential additional surface water yield that canbe obtained from the Tampa Bypass Canal, and construct a pilot Rapid Infiltration Basin and\or wetland treatment to conductpilot trials. In addition to potable water supply benefits and improved groundwater levels and increased recharge to the TampaBypass Canal, there are four associated environmental benefits: 1. Reduction of nitrogen loading to Hillsborough Bay; 2.Additional freshwater flows to meet Minimum Flows requirements; 3. Use of an alternative water supply source; and 4.Wetlands restoration.
