Specifications include, but are not limited to: CRM 76218 25 KV 1/0 AWG Solid Aluminum Underground Cable All cables comply with the latest requirements of AEIC No. CS5 and ICEA S-66-524/NEMA WC7 latestrevision.Inner ShieldingInner conductors shall be 1/0 AWG solid Aluminum (Alloy 1350 EC grade)Conductor ShieldingAll cables shall have an extruded semi-conducting cross linked polyethylene conductor shield applieddirectly over the counter. The conductor shield shall be a material compatible with the conductor metaland shall be uniformly and firmly bonded to the overlaying insulation. The conductor shield shall be freestripping from the conductor and meets or exceeds Union Carbides HFDA-0692 Black 55 semiconductorinsulation shielding compound specifications.InsulationThe insulation shall be high quality, heat-moisture-ozone and corona-resistant, tree retardant cross linkedpolyethylene compound suitable for operation in wet or dry locations. The insulation shall be examinedand tested per AEIC.No. CS5.The average wall thickness of the tree-retardant cross linked polyethylene insulation shall be not less than260 miles.Concentric NeutralThe concentric neutral wires must be annealed, bare or coated copper meeting the requirements of ICEAS-66-524part 2The concentric neutral wires shall be applied helically and spaced evenly with a lay of 6-8 times theoutside diameter over the concentric neutral wires.The number and size concentric neutral wires shall meet requirements of full neutral concentricconductor.JacketingThe outer jacket shall be an insulating, black, high molecular weight (HMW) polyethylene compoundmeeting all the requirements of ICEA-S-66-524, Section 4, paragraph 4.3.2 and 4.3.3The jacket must be encapsulating so as to enclose all concentric neutral wires.The minimum average thickness above the neutral wires shall be 50 miles.The jacket must be bonded to the insulation shield. The jacket must be free stripping from the insulationshield and the concentric neutral wires.Cable IdentificationThe outer surface of each cable shall be durably market throughout its length with the manufacturersidentification, type of insulation, size of conductor, whether aluminum or copper, rated voltage, year ofmanufacture and insulation thickness.Tests and InspectionsTests and inspections shall be performed on conductors, insulation, shields, jackets and completed cablesto meet all requirements of ICEA S-66-524 and AEIC No. CS5 latest date.Cable or components shall be subject to inspection and tests in the suppliers plant by any purchasingutilitys authorized representative.One certified copy of all test reports shall be furnished on all cables.ReelsThe cable shall be placed on the reel so that it will be protected from damage during shipmentEach end of the cable shall be firmly and properly secured to the reel. Care shall be taken to preventlooseness of reeled cable.The reels shall be wood lagged or covered with suitable material to provide physical protection for thecable during transit and during ordinary storage and handling operations.
