Specifications include, but are not limited to: Installation of a 0.66 mile long, 12 wide boardwalk and sidewalk trail along the Chattahoochee River fromWilleo Park to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, Georgia.A. Utilize construction methods that will minimize damage to existing improvements and vegetation.It is the intent of these Documents to return all items and all areas disturbed, either directly orindirectly by work under these specifications, to their original condition or better, as quickly aspossible after work is started. Avoid any activity that might result in significant stream siltation.Accomplish these objectives by restricting construction operations to favorable seasons, constructionof temporary siltation impoundments, stockpiling and respreading topsoil and vegetation, grassing,and other effective means. Adhere to Local and State regulations concerning runoff and siltation.B. Do not disturb cultivated and ornamental trees, shrubbery, or ground covers unless absolutelynecessary for the prosecution of the work, subject to review by the Engineer. Replace all shrubs,gardens and cultivated or ornamental trees removed, damaged beyond repair or killed by theContractor's operation within and adjacent to the work site in like kind and size, as soon as practicableand maintained through one full growing season, unless, in the opinion of the Engineer, the density ofsize of such growth makes replacement impractical. In this event, replacement may take the form ofground covers selected to minimize erosion. Perform heeling in and replanting of shrubs andcultivated or ornamental trees under the direction of an experienced nurseryman and complete workin a manner acceptable to the property owner and the Landscape Architect.C. Do not remove trees for the performance of the work except as absolutely necessary. Protect treesthat remain in the vicinity of the work from damage from equipment and from spoil excavation storedagainst the trunks. Where excavated material is stored over the root system of trees, remove materialwithin 30 days to allow proper natural watering of the root system. An experienced nurseryman shallrepair any tree that is damaged in the work.D. At the Contractor's option, cultivated or ornamental trees, shrubs, and gardens removed for theprosecution of the work may be salvaged, stockpiled and replanted provided that the materials arenot damaged and that they can be, restored to full growth status, as determined by an experiencednurseryman. Perform heeling in and replanting of such cultivated or ornamental trees and, shrubsunder the direction of an experienced nurseryman and complete work in a manner acceptable to theproperty owner and the Landscape Architect. Replant trees and shrubs through one full growingseason.
