Specifications include, but are not limited to: The primary goal of the supported employment and supported living program is to have eligibleclients successfully complete provided services and trainings who can then transition into livingindependently and working in a competitive integrated environment. Adjusting to new andunfamiliar challenges is critical to successful independence, as well as the overall health and wellbeing of blind and visually impaired clients.The services and training program should support the diverse needs of the blind and visuallyimpaired and work together with the Department to provide an intensive, daily training program inFlorida that develops the vocational and daily living skills needed for blind and visually impairedindividuals to be productive members in the community and workforce.1. Activities of Daily Living - Training in this category refers to training in basic or routineactions that individuals perform on a daily basis to maintain health, well-being, andindependence within the home and community. These activities may include:a. Home Management Training, which includes the actions necessary to take care ofthe household and keep all of the systems within the home (such as laundry,cleaning, money management, organization, use of appliances, meal preparation,etc.) under control and functioning properly;b. Management of a Secondary Disability, which includes training to manage a nonvisual disability that can be ameliorated through better understanding andappropriate interventions;c. Non-Optical Devices Training, which includes the use of general-purpose devicesto assist in the organization and completion of daily activities by alteringenvironmental perception through enhancing illumination, contrast and spatialrelationships. This does not include the instruction of Assistive Technologydevices;d. Personal Management Training, which includes self-care activities such as propereating techniques, grooming and personal hygiene, dressing, medicationmanagement, etc.; ande. Pre-Cane Skills Training, which includes sensory awareness, conceptdevelopment, search techniques, room familiarization (a technique using asystematic procedure for independently examining an unfamiliar room fordeveloping a clear understanding of the spatial relationships of objects within theroom), protective techniques (which are aimed to protect various parts of the bodyduring travel), sighted guide (which involves the use of a sighted individual to actas a guide for safe and comfortable navigation through an unfamiliar environment),etc.
