Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to: Contractor shall mow Fluvanna-Ruritan Lake dam (located off Rt. 619) and spillway with low impact track skidsteer equipment or mower and hand equipment. Vegetation shall cleared 10ft past the toe of the dam, throughout the spillway (from pond edge to creek channel), from the rip-rap on the waters edge of the dam, around the old impoundment below the dam, and around/below the overflow outlet pipe and structure. Cutting should continue all the way to white mow markers if present. Herbicide applications can be used for woody vegetation with first mowing (early summer), but all vegetation must be cut during second mowing (fall). Herbicide application can only be conducted by or under the supervision of a certified herbicide applicator and under herbicide label directions. Only herbicides approved for use around waterbodies shall be used and if the treatment was not effective the contractor may be required to retreat vegetation. If renewal options are exercised the schedule for each renewal period is: The first in the fall (by the end of October) and the second by in the early summer of the next year (by the end of May)). Mowing should only occur when dam soils are dry; the contractor is responsible for repairing any trenching, soil/structural damage, and any other damage created by machines.
