Specifications include, but are not limited to: DescriptionThis work consists of placing sod on shoulders, slopes, ditches, or other roadside areas, as directed.The sod shall be prepared in accordance with the requirements of Section 1664 of the StandardSpecifications and the requirements of this section.MaterialsOnly "approved sod" (trade designation) consisting of either 100% Turf-Type Tall Fescue or acombination of predominately Turf-Type Tall Fescue with additional Kentucky Bluegrass forimproved performance shall be used to fulfill the requirements of this contract. The Turf-typeTall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass, if included, shall be grown from seed approved inNCDOTs approved Field and Grass Seed Specification. The sod, machine cut to the suppliersstandard width and length, shall be a depth of at least 16mm minimum, excluding top growth andthatch, at the time of cutting. Before cutting, the sod shall be uniformly mowed at a height of38mm to 63mm. Standard sod sections shall be sufficiently strong to support their own weightand retain their size and shape when suspended vertically from a firm grasp on the upper 10% ofthe section. The sods approximate dimensions may be either 1067mm wide for big-roll sod, or457mm by 914mm for strips, or 609mm by 1524mm for small rolls.The Contractor shall obtain a certificate or limited permit issued by the North Carolina Departmentof Agriculture and Consumer Services (1-800-206-9333) or (919-733-6932) stating that the sodhas been found to be free of injurious plant pests including noxious weeds.Sod shall be delivered on site within 24 hours of being cut and be covered by acceptable meansduring delivery. A certificate from the sod producer stating the date and time of sod cutting shallaccompany the sod when it arrives at the project site.
