Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Golden Gate MSTU has a need to upgrade the control circuits for irrigation on Coronado and Hunter Blvd. in Golden Gate City. To achieve this, conduit must be installed through the medians to the controller and control wires installed within the conduit. There are currently twelve Motorola Piccolos operating thirty irrigation valves along the two roads. A Piccolo is a stand-alone, solar and DC powered, radio controlled, valve actuator. Each of the Piccolos controls 1-4 valves. The intent is to remove the piccolos and wire the individual valves directly to the central controller on median #5 Hunter Blvd. To achieve this, the design in McGee & Associates Prints LD-33 through LD-59 will be used. A 2 PVC conduit will be installed just inside the curb in the median which will connect to a previously installed conduit between the medians. Generally, the first 14-18 of the median edge is free of vegetation and covered in mulch. The Piccolos, including the concrete base will be removed completely. In ground pull boxes, will be added as needed to achieve access and to limit the number of 90-degree bends to a maximum of four between boxes. The DC solenoids on each valve will be changed to 24 VAC solenoids. Each Solenoid will be connected to a dedicated red 12 GA wire and a shared white 12 GA wire. There will be at least one spare red wire, a spare white wire, and a green ground wire extended from the controller to the each of the two ends of Coronado Blvd, and to the north end of Hunter Blvd. Each valve will be numbered as indicated in the overhead pictures with a permanent plastic tag marked with permanent numbers, and each connecting red wire will have the same number on both ends. Spare red wires will be numbered starting at 90, 91, etc. as needed.
