Specifications include, but are not limited to: Highway SweepingHighway sweeping operations will include, but not be limited to, the items of work identified below.Perform sweeping operations along:1. All concrete median barrier walls for the full length of the wall and along the full length ofall barrier walls.2. The curb line of all bridges paralleling and adjacent to the traffic lanes.3. The full length and width of all paved Park and Ride lots.4. All curb lines including total area of bike routes as designated on the work locationsheets.5. The curb lines of all overhead bridges at designated interchanges.Disposal of Foreign Matter and DebrisPickup and remove all foreign matter and debris from the roadway by a brooming or a suction processfrom designated areas. This foreign matter and debris shall include all items located within the designatedareas where highway sweeping is to occur, with the exception of motor vehicles. Dispose of the foreignmatter and the debris at a location(s) outside of the highway rights-of-way. The Department will make nopayment for disposal sites.Remove foreign matter from drainage structures when deposited by the highway sweeping operation.If the sweeper is unable to unload debris at the work site, no payment will be made for the time taken tohaul material to a disposal site.Perform all debris and foreign matter disposal activity as incidental to the highway sweeping operation.Equipment Provide highway sweeping equipment that is in good working condition and that is suitable to perform andcomplete the required work on the resulting Master Agreement within the specified time frame. Providesweeping equipment units equipped such that all work is accomplished within the current standards asestablished by state and local laws, regulations, or regulations for noise and pollution controls. Provide allequipment accessory items necessary for the efficient operation and completion of the work.Provide truck mounted, mobile, broom sweeping equipment units capable of sweeping either right or leftshoulders of the roadway when traveling with the flow of traffic. Units must meet the following criteria:Minimum of a 4 cubic yard hopperEquipped with a dust suppression systemHave curb and rear broom capacityUnit shall be newer than 5 years oldMinimum 26,000 GVWSweeping unit shall be equivalent to Elgin Road Wizard or Tymco 500X.Provide a truck equipped with a Flashing Arrow Board and a 62 MPH Impact Attenuating Device to beutilized as an escort vehicle for the Sweeper Unit during highway sweeping operations. This vehicleshall be equipped with a 500 gallon water tank and pumping device to transfer water from one vehicleto another. Operate this escort vehicle at a distance of approximately two-hundred (200) feet behind theslow moving sweeping operation. Provide this unit to be the first item of equipment to be encountered bythe traveling public.Provide a truck that will travel ahead of the sweeping unit for manual collection of debris and foreignmatter that is too large or incapable of being captured by the sweeping unit.Place the Company Name, address, and phone number on each vehicle in a location on the unit that isvisible to the public. Use lettering that is a minimum of three inches (3") in height.Vendor shall provide the Department a listing of all drivers and current CDL licenses.All equipment shall conform to all prevailing Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations. Requireall operators and other employees to wear safety vests that conform to OSHA regulations on the job siteat all times.Perform highway sweeping operations in a manner such that interference with passing traffic in the traveledroadway is kept to a minimum and in a manner so as not to create a hazard to traveling motorists.Park or store equipment that is idle or not in use, such as during break times, lunch time, or overnight,away from the outside shoulder of the roadway in an inconspicuous location and as directed by theEngineer.
