Specifications include, but are not limited to: The project requesting commissioning is anticipated to replace an existing water-cooled chiller system at MSUMs Center for the Arts with a new air-cooled chiller system. This work would include the complete demolition of the existing cooling tower and condenser water piping system, as well as the existing chiller, and replacing it with a new air-cooled chiller. The predesign identified the need of a new 300-ton chiller, to be verified by design team using Future Weather Files instead of historicalweather files. Minnesota B3 requires the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Fifth Assessment Report, 2014 prediction, RCP 8.5, 50thpercentile out to 2040, which should be used for this project. The new chiller would be located on the roof of thebuilding in the location from which the existing cooler tower is removed. A structural review will need to be completed to verify this, and reinforcement designed as needed. New pipe and insulation would be installed from the new chiller location down to the basement mechanical room from which the existing chiller was removed. Within the mechanical room, a set of redundant chilled water system pumps would be installed along with a new airseparator, expansion tank, manual valves and instrumentation. The controls for the new chiller and pumps would be connected into the existing building automation system for monitoring and control. All penetrations need to be patched or fire sealed at fire walls/fire barriers and locations of removed equipment and piping need to have their finishes patched to match adjacent conditions. Any roof penetrations need to be patched in conformance with Minnesota State Facilities Design Standards. The selected design team is ledby Obernel Engineering.
