Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Prepare for the field season from March 1 of the current contract term through April 30 of the currentcontract term.B. Post job announcements on wildlife job boards online (e.g., Colorado State University, Texas A &M, Ornithology Exchange) and offer positions to past field technicians with the goal of hiring highquality technicians with a combination of education and experience in wildlife and the biologicalsciences. This ensures the most accurate data collection possible.C. Employ a staff member who will work part-time as a landowner liaison. The landowner liaison willwork on compiling and coordinating landowner information throughout the year. This person will beresponsible for researching and securing landowner information for transects on private property,contacting landowners for permission to survey on their land, and maintaining a landownerdatabase for field technicians to access. The landowner liaison will follow-up with landowners atthe end of the survey season with a letter summarizing the birds observed on their property andthanking them for their participation.D. Update and print data sheets for all field techs for the field season.E. Update protocols, in consultation with CPW.F. Conduct a supplies inventory and order additional supplies as needed.G. Create and print maps and transect description pages for all transect locations.H. In conjunction with CPW, develop a sampling plan for the upcoming field season. The samplingplan will include the number of surveys to be conducted and the breakdown of survey effort bystratum. Additional surveys in Colorado may be funded by partners such as the United StatesForest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The sampling plan developed byBird Conservancy and CPW will attempt to optimize samples across Colorado.I. Submit the completed sampling plan to CPW by March 31 of the current contract term.J. Conduct an initial training session for seasonal field technicians before they begin surveying. Thefield crew will consist of seasonal field technicians overseen by a crew leader, who is a full-timeBird Conservancy staff member. The number of seasonal field technicians hired will depend on thesurvey effort. The first day of training will be spent explaining Colorados Statewide Bird Monitoringprogram, Distance Sampling methodology, protocols, and the use of field equipment. Visual andaural quizzes will be given to assess technicians initial identification skill levels.
