Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Working Toward Wellness grant provides funding and technical assistance for the development or improvement of six workplace wellness programs across the state (see geographical requirements above). The grants are made possible by the Division of Health Promotion and Disease Preventions 1305-State Public Health Action to Prevent and Control Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity and Associated Risk Factors and Promote School Health.The purpose of the Working Toward Wellness grant is to guide businesses through the steps to design and sustain a wellness program that fits the scale and culture of their organization. The Working Toward Wellness grant covers materials and technical assistance for the establishment or improvement of a workplace wellness program. Worksites will be given a one-time award of $3,000 to help develop a sustainable wellness program with a focus on increasing the physical activity and healthy eating opportunities for employees. Activities that contribute to changes in the built environment and help to develop a lasting culture of wellness are encouraged. Worksites will be matched with a Department of Health staff from their area who will work closely with them throughout the grant year to:Compose a wellness teamIdentify the wellness needs of the company and employeesCreate goals for the programPlan and implement wellness programmingDevelop a sustainability plan for continuing the wellness program after the end of the grant yearEvaluate efforts2. Scope of Work2.1 ApproachesA workplace wellness program can have many benefits for a business and its employees. In addition to increasing employee engagement and camaraderie, wellness programs can lead to measureable health outcomes. Worksites are a great place to focus on changing health behaviors by encouraging and supporting healthy eating and physical activity habits. Each workplace selected will have different goals for their wellness program, but they must have a focus on creating healthy food and physical activity environments.
