Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:This specification covers a reflectorized thermoplastic pavement striping materialthat is applied to the road surface in a molten state by approved road markingequipment or equivalent. The thermoplastic should have glass beads applied tothe surface at a uniform rate of ten (10) pounds per one hundred (100) squarefeet. The applied thermoplastic material must maintain its thickness and widthupon cooling to the normal pavement temperature. The thermoplastic must resistdeformation and maintain its adhesion to the road surface.MaterialsThe thermoplastic material shall be an evenly dispersed mixture of binder, glassbeads, pigment, and filler. The raw materials shall be inspected and found toconform to road marking standards. The formulation of the thermoplastic is theresponsibility of the vendor, but the physical requirements of this specification areto be maintained for all formulations. A formulation must be consistent from batchto batch. The thermoplastic material shall be free from all foreign debris. Thethermoplastic material shall not emit toxic or injurious fumes when heated toapplication temperature.Physical Characteristics:The physical characteristics of the final mixed thermoplastic product should be asfollows:-Specific Gravity - The specific gravity of the material shall be between 1.85 and2.3g/cm cubed. Use test method in AASHTO T -250.-Water Absorption: - The thermoplastic material shall not contain more than 0.5percent by weight of water. Use test method in ASTM D 570.-Conditioning Test - The thermoplastic material must be conditioned before theremainder of the physical testing can be completed. The thermoplasticmaterial shall be heated for four hours + - 5 minutes at 190C + - 2C (425 +- 3F). The thermoplastic material is then cooled to 25 + - 2C (77 + - 3F).- Reflectance I Color
