Specifications include, but are not limited to:The purpose of this project is to provide for removal and utilization or disposal of residual lime from the Board of' Water and Light (BWL) filter press building located at 148 South Cedar Street, Lansing, Michigan. The BWL owns and operates two water-conditioning plants in Lansing. Both plants utilize the lime/soda ash softening process to produce a municipal water supply for the Lansing metropolitan area. The softening process produces a material referred to as residual lime consisting primarily of' calcium carbonate, with a small amount of' magnesium hydroxide and other trace compounds. The estimated annual quantity of filter press cake is 35,000 dry tons. Actual tonnage will vary based on water demand. The residual lime from both softening plants is pumped to the BWL's filter press at 148 South Cedar Street. The filter press dewaters the residual lime and produces a filter press cake suitable for trucking and further utilization or disposal.
