Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:CABLE The cable shall be single conductor composed of a concentric compact stranded copper conductor, extruded thermoset semi-conducting polymer conductor shield, EPR insulation, an insulation shield of extruded layer of black thermoset semiconducting compound, metallic copper tape shield and PVC jacket overall. It shall be capable of operating at a normal continuous conductor temperature of 105C, an emergency overload conductor temperature of 130C and a short circuit conductor temperature of 250C, all at the rated cable voltage of 15 kV, 60 Hz. Each cable shall be identified in accordance with AEIC CS-8, with applicable markings on the outer surface of the cable jacket, either with indented/ embedded markings (including year of manufacture) or with an indelible ink for the same required markings. All markings shall have a projected life that exceeds the warranty period. The extruded conductor shield, EPR insulation and the extruded insulation shield shall be applied in a common extrusion head utilizing a true triple tandem extrusion single-pass process or a dual tandem extrusion head to prevent exposure of the EPR insulation to the manufacturing plant environment prior to the application of the extruded insulation shield. Cable sizes covered by this specification are indicated in Table 1. Table 1 also provides three of the approved cable manufacturers catalog numbers meeting this specification as a reference. CONDUCTOR The conductor strands shall be annealed, uncoated copper compact Class B stranding in accordance with ASTM standards. The conductor shall meet the requirements of ICEA standards. CONDUCTOR SHIELD The conductor shield shall be an extruded layer of black thermoset semi conducting compound and meeting the requirements of AEIC CS-8. The minimum thickness shall be 6 mils in accordance with ICEA requirements. The conductor shield shall strip easily from the conductor, but be firmly bonded to the overlying insulation, in accordance with ICEA S-93-639 and AEIC CS-8.
