Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wildlife Division is seeking bids for control of invasive woody and herbaceous plants in a prairie fen wetland complex at Holly State Recreation Area. Holly Recreation Area is located in Oakland County just east of Holly, Michigan. The health and existence of rare plant and animal species and the prairie fen community at this location depends on removing scattered invasive species and opening up areas of fen now dominated by invasive shrubs (such as buckthorn) and herbaceous plants (such as cat-tail). The general goal of this project is to restore high quality prairie fen by controlling invasive species and encroaching brush, thereby reducing the presence of these species and favoring the presence of native prairie fen herbaceous vegetation such as sedges, grasses, and forbs. This work will be accomplished by cutting and applying herbicide to selected plants. The work will be bid as lump sum pricing for each treatment area. A pre-bid meeting will be held, and prospective bidders are required to attend the pre-bid meeting in order to submit a bid.The work must be completed between August 1 and September 15, 2016.BOBJECTIVEThe objective of this project is to control invasive woody and herbaceous plants in multiple treatment areas, thereby reducing the presence of these species and favoring the presence of native prairie fen vegetation that supports threatened plants and animal species of greatest conservation need. This work will be accomplished by cutting and applying herbicide to selected plants.CTASK DESCRIPTIONTREATMENTa.SPECIESIn all Treatment Areas: Treat all live stems of woody plants, along withcat-tail (Typha spp.), phragmites (Phragmites australis), reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea), and purple loosestrife
