Specifications include, but are not limited to:This RFP is for the purchase of a Time Resolved Tomographic PIV System. It will be used by the CBL for animal behavior and predator-prey interactions. The PIV system will be a stand-alone experimental system that will provide researchers with unique capabilities to visualize and quantify the distribution and movement of small planktonic animals in estuarine ecosystems. Use of the instrument will be open to researchers within UMCES and to collaborators within the USM.CBL anticipates using the system for the following projects,1. Quantify flow fluid and fluxes: The system will be used to quantify the flow fields generated by different organisms including copepods, sea nettle, ctenophores, oyster, mysids, and krill, and benthic-pelagic coupling. This system will also be used to investigate the movement of particles which could be quantified by using this system.2. Characterize organism behavior: The system will be used to study 3-D fine scale (~10 um) movement of a wide range of organisms under various environmental conditions.3. Predator-prey interactions: The system will be used to study trophic interactions for organism in aquatic environments. To track the particle movement for studying fluxes, the distribution and movement of animals and relationships between planktonic predators and prey the PIV system must include the following capabilities:a) A high resolution camera system to record the exact location of each particle in 3-D over time
