Specifications include, but are not limited to:CARTA is requesting proposals from qualified firms for the provision of three 30-foot low floor all elec-tric zero emissions fixed route vehicles with inductive charging and associated equipment with an option for 3 additional 30 or 35-foot vehicles and equipment. With support from the Federal Transit Administra-tion, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) and CARTA have demonstrated the efficacy of wayside inductive power transfer as a means of extending the useful range of 22-foot electric shuttle buses through wireless charging. CARTA has since been awarded a Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) grant for the purchase of three 30-foot all electric buses. CARTAs primary research has been in inductive charging, and inductive charging is a required component of this project. CARTA considers a vehicle that can effectively operate a traditional fixed route service day to be a suc-cess, with vehicle charging being for a minimal amount of time (3 minutes or less) so as not to negatively affect the time schedules. CARTAs longest route is the Eastgate/Hamilton Place route (approximately 30 miles). In addition, all routes with the exception of CARTAs North Brainerd, East Brainerd, and Eastdale routes center on the downtown area. It is CARTAs desire to be able to use the three all electric vehicles on any fixed route productively as outlined above. The three neighborhood routes listed North Brainerd, East Brainerd, and Eastdale would not be included. See below for a map of all of CARTAs fixed routes
