Specifications include, but are not limited to:Proposals are requested to cover the sorbent requirements for the University of NorthCarolina at Chapel Hill Cogeneration Facility. While it is not contemplated that anyabnormal requirements will develop during the contract period, if such should occur, theUniversity reserves the right to call for special separate bids thereon.2. For the purposes of this document, sorbent is the material used in the circulating fluidizedbed boilers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Cogeneration Facility tocapture sulfur in the fuel thereby reducing the sulfur dioxide emissions from the stack.Typically, certain quality limestone and other calcium carbonate products are acceptableprovided they meet the physical and chemical specifications included herein.3. Two types of sorbent are solicited with this Invitation to Bid.a. High Calcium Sorbent: High calcium sorbent is generally a mineral compositionwith a calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ) concentration of 80% or higher. The sorbentmay be high calcium limestone, high calcium aragonite, or a fixed ratio blend of thetwo.b. Dolomite: Dolomite is generally dolomitic stone that has nearly equal percentagesof calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ) and magnesium carbonate (MgCO3 ), with bothbeing in the 40-50% range
