Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:Positive Train Control (PTC) is a new safety measure mandated by the Federal Government. PTC is designed to help prevent train-to-train collisions, derailments, and other human caused accidents. The Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 mandates that seven Class I railroads as well as several other freight, commuter and short line railroads install PTC. The Department is looking for information and all options on possible solutions to accomplish the federal mandate. Specifically, the Department is looking to procure a vendor to install PTC on the Central Florida Corridor by 2020. The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) estimates that full PTC implementation will cost more than $10 billion with annual maintenance costs about $850 million. The primary benefit of PTC is to improve rail safety but will also benefit the rail line.
