Specifications include, but are not limited to:All plow cutting edges shall be steel unless an exemption has been requested by the equipment owner and approved by the AssistantGeneral Manager of Engineering and Maintenance. All requests and approvals for exemptions shall be made in writing onAttachment D. A copy ofthe approved forms must be kept in the vehicle during snow and ice operations.All Contractors are required to provide their equipment operators with a cellular phone while working for MBTA. The Contractor oroperator must provide the phone number to MBTA's Timekeeper or Supervisor and inform them of any changes.All equipment will be issued a MBTA equipment decal. The decal must be applied on the rear of the equipment in a locationapproved by MBTA. The decals must remain in place for the duration of the snow and ice season.All spreaders must be equipped with automated synchronization (ground speed control) and adjustable controls in the cab of thetruck. All spreaders must be capable of consistently dispensing material at 240 pounds (+/- 10 pounds) per lane mile. All spreadersshall be equipped with working pre-wetting units capable of applying between 8-10 gallons of liquid de-icing chemical per ton. Allspreaders and direct liquid materials spreaders are required to be calibrated by a MBTA approved calibrator prior to the deadline.Contractors that are notified that their equipment is not calibrated correctly, or pre-wetting unit is inoperable, will be allowed to fmishtheir work shift, but will not be allowed to return until their equipment has been repaired and inspected by MBTA. Contractors thatare requested to work prior to making repairs will be penalized per hour equal to the compensation rate of the applicable SpreaderCode. When requested to work this equipment will also be released first and MBTA will not be required to pay the four-hourminimum or travel allowance compensation. All equipment will be subject to inspection by MBTA at any time during the winterseason. All Contractors are required to have a copy of their approved Certificate of Calibration in their vehicle at all times whileemployed by MBTA.
