Specifications include, but are not limited to:All sidewalks within the city shall be constructed in accordance with the following specifications; such sidewalk that is not constructed to conform to the following specifications will be removed and replaced at the expense of the contractor to meet all the following specifications: 1. All walks must be at least six (6) feet in width unless a different width is approved by the Project Manager. All walks must be straight and free from irregularities in line or grade. All walks must be replaced to the width of the existing walk or at least six (6) feet wide. 2. Excavation shall be made to the required depth and to a width that shall permit the installation and bracing of the forms. The foundation shall be shaped and compacted to a firm even surface. All soft and yielding material shall be removed and replaced with a granular fill material approved by the Director. All existing concrete and concrete sidewalk must be removed before sidewalk is installed. 3. Sidewalk forms shall be of wood or metal, straight and free from warp and of sufficient strength to resist springing during the process of depositing concrete against them. The forms shall be to the full depth of the concrete and shall be firmly staked to the required line and grade. Forms shall be so installed as to provide a transverse slope of one-quarter (1/4) inch per foot towards the street. Curb forms shall be metal, straight and free from warp. 4. Sidewalks shall be constructed of thoroughly mixed concrete of a minimum thickness of four (4) inches at all points except for driveways, where the minimum thickness shall be six (6) inches, and Alley Approach will be eight (8) inches. All concrete used shall have 6AA limestone with a minimum compressive strength of 3,500 p.s.i. at 28 days and shall have 6.5% (+ 1) air content. A ready mix concrete shall have a minimum of 564 lbs. of cement per yard (6 bags) with a maximum slump of 4 inches and no more than 2 inches of slump for curb work.
