Specifications include, but are not limited to: Brain Injury & Statewide Specialized Community Services (BI&SSCS) is part of the Community Living Division of the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC). It is the public program within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that identifies, cultivates and develops resources and services for Massachusetts residents who have sustained an externally caused traumatic brain injury. MRC offers many resources and services for Massachusetts residents who have sustained an externally caused traumatic brain injury. BI&SSCS is a completely state funded program whose budget is determined annually by the state legislature. BI&SSCS has nearly a twenty-year history of providing social and recreational services to individuals with brain injury. Past programming has served to provide individuals with brain injury an opportunity to participate in community activities, identify leisure interests, develop social connections, and improve the quality of their lives. Many individuals also have had opportunities to improve their planning skills, decision-making skills, and leadership skills through designing and planning many of the events that have been offered. In FY 15, over 600 people were served through the various social and recreation programs offered throughout the state that were funded by BI&SSCS.
