Specifications include, but are not limited to:Service will be on an as needed basis. WSU anticipates roof snow shoveling to be necessary when the snow accumulates to approximately 24 on the rooftops. Once called, the contractor must respond within 24 hours. Contractor may be asked to provide snow removal services in areas other than roofs, such as sidewalks and walkways. Contractor shall follow all OSHA requirements for roof fall protection and /or any other applicable regulations such as worker exposure to extreme weather conditions. Contractor shall provide proof of worker training. Contractor is responsible for providing all safety equipment for its workers and training on its proper use. Contractor shall not use any portable roof railing installed by the University as a means of anchoring for fall arrest/protection. Temporary roof railing systems may not be removed, altered or relocated without the Universitys permission. Contractor shall not use any power equipment unless the equipment and process is approved by the University. This includes snowthrowers, power brooms, snowblowers, high pressure washers, use of hot water. Anything using an open flame is prohibited. Use of plastic shovels (NO metal edge), brooms and wheelbarrows are approved. Snow cannot be stockpiled on roof, snow should be removed in layers to prevent load shifting. Contractor shall work with the WSU staff to create a written work plan for removal of snow from the roof. Snow will not need to be moved once it is removed from the roofs. Snow should be removed down to 3 from the roof membrane to prevent damage to the roof. Extra care should be given that all roof drains are clear. Any ice buildup should be brought to the attention of the University. Drifts adjacent to roof top equipment, exhausts, air intakes, roof access doors, stairways and ladders must be removed. Any off-loading of snow from rooftops must be coordinated with the University. Only designated areas and times approved by the University will be allowed. A spotter shall be posted at the ground where snow is being offloaded to keep the area clear of pedestrians.
