Specifications include, but are not limited to:The project is located at the State of Iowa Ankeny Labs at the DMACC campus in Ankeny, Iowa. Thefacility is approximately 175,000 SF and was built in 2004 with six (6) building areas. Buildings A, B, C,D and E are connected through common hallways. Buildings A, B, C, D, and E are mainly lab spacewith approximately 20-30% of the area dedicated to office use. Uses of the lab space include medicalexaminer office, chemical storage, drug lab, crime lab, and other tasks necessary for the State ofIowa. All lab spaces require 100% of outside air ventilation at all times. Building F is a standalonestructure, served by separate air-cooled chillers, with 100% lab space and is not part of this project.The Iowa Labs currently use (2) 770-ton water cooled chillers to provide chilled water to buildings A, B,C, D, and E. These chillers utilize a chilled water reset control strategy based on outdoor airtemperature. (2) constant volume 100-HP pumps bring chilled water to (3) water towers located outsidethe facility. There is no condenser water temperature reset.The following scope of work shall be included as part of the design firms scope:- Evaluation study to review the viability of implementing a chilled water optimization project tooptimize the existing cooling equipment. Perform a kick-off meeting onsite to review andanalyze existing building elements and to discuss desired outcome of projects with Owner,Construction Manager, and Owners maintenance staff. The study may include assessingstrategies such as variable frequency drives (VFDs) on various pumps, added condenser watertemperature reset, replacement or reconfiguration of the existing condensing water pumps andthe decoupling loop and any other optimization strategies that align with the project. Evaluationwill also include whether or not the controls system can be changed or it is proprietary.- Dependent on the evaluation study and recommended scope, the State may choose tocontinue into design with the selected design firm for any improvements.
