Specifications include, but are not limited to:PRESSURE AGING VESSEL (PAV) SYSTEMThe Pressure Aging Vessel (PAV) System shall consist of a pressure vessel, pressure controlling devices, temperature controlling devices, and temperature measuring and recording devices, conforming to AASHTO R28. The PAV System shall come complete with all user manuals, set-up instructions, electrical connections for 208V/50-60 Hz, and compressed air connections for user supplied compressed air. The PAV System shall also meet the following specifications:Pressure VesselThe PAV System shall have stainless steel vertical vessel with hinged lid designed, manufactured, tested, and stamped in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division I for 2.45 MPa @ 148C (350 psig @ 300F).The vessel shall have interior dimensions adequate to hold ten (10) stainless steel pans in a pan holder in a horizontal (level) position such that the asphalt binder film thickness in the bottom of the pans does not vary by more than 0.5 mm across any diameter of the pan.The holder shall be designed for easy insertion and removal from the vessel when the holder, pans, and asphalt binder are at the test temperature.Pressure Aging System ControllerThe PAV System shall have a digital system controller capable of logging and downloading the following aging run data:Temperature (wall and air)PressureElapsed TimeTemperature Error TimePressure Error TimePower ConsumptionThe PAV System shall be capable of downloading data via USB drive to a computer or laptop. The PAV System Controller shall have both audible and visual timing alarms for indicating a temperature out of tolerance by more than 0.5 C in excess of sixty (60) minutes, or failure to achieve reheating and pressurization within two (2) hours after loading specimens.Pressure-Controlling DevicesThe PAV System shall have an installed, spring-loaded pressure relief valve calibrated to release pressure at 2.2 MPa to prevent pressure in the vessel from exceeding 2.2 MPa during the aging procedure. The PAV System shall have a pressure regulator capable of controlling the pressure within the vessel to one (1) percent of the set point with a capacity adequate to reduce the pressure from the source of compressed air so that the pressure within the loaded pressure vessel is maintained at 2.1 0.1 MPa during the practice. The PAV System shall have an adjustable slow release bleed valve that allows the pressure in the vessel at the completion of the conditioning procedure to be reduced at an approximately linear rate from 2.1 MPa to local atmospheric pressure within nine (9) minutes ( 1 minute).
