The portable magnetometer will be capable of collecting and storing 8 hours of data with a sensitivity of 0.02 nT (nanoteslas) at 0.5 (or greater) sec cycle rate with location information. Noise should be less than 0.008 nT per square root Hertz-RMS and be capable of tolerating magnetic gradients greater than 20,000 nT/m. The portable magnetometer should have optional gradiometry capabilities. The base station will be a proton precession magnetometer capable of recording and storing magnetic field changes every two seconds over a 10-12 hour time period and have a resolution of less than and equal to 0.1 nT.
