Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:The MCIA operates a solid waste Transfer Station (NJDEP Facility ID No. 133577) located on Block 13, Lots 3, 10, 16, 17 and 37 in the Township of Ewing, Mercer County, New Jersey. The facility processes up to 1,500 tons per day (not to exceed 6,000 tons per week) of solid waste types ID 10, 13, 13C, 23 and 27. Waste type ID 10 is tipped at the Transfer Station tipping floor, compacted and transferred to disposal facilities in Pennsylvania for ultimate disposal. All other waste types are weighed at the Transfer Station scales and redirected to the disposal facilities for ultimate disposal. Pursuant to the New Jersey Solid Waste Management Act (the Act), the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) requires that each county recycle 60% of its total solid waste stream and 50% of its municipal solid waste stream. According to 2012 NJDEP tonnage figures, Mercer County recycles 57% of its total solid waste stream and recycles 43% of its municipal solid waste stream. In order to increase its recycling rates, the MCIA, through its consulting engineer, prepared a county-wide waste quantification and characterization study to identify particular areas where increased recycling can occur. A copy of this study is available on the MCIAs website at www.mcianj.org. Currently, Mercer Countys solid waste stream contains approximately 60,000 tons of food waste and other organic waste that is currently not being separated and recycled prior to disposal. In order for the county to achieve its state-mandated recycling goals, further focus and recycling of this organic component of the solid waste stream is necessary
