Specifications include, but are not limited to:Attic Insulation Whenever attic insulation is feasible, insulation will be added according to thefollowing:For Electrically heated homes:Existing Insulation = < R11 Add R30Existing Insulation = R11 to R21 Add R19For gas heated homes:Existing Insulation = < R13 Add R30Existing Insulation = R13 to R21 Add R19 The Contractor will measure the dwelling to determine the square footage ofthe attic insulation needed. Dimensions will be rounded to the nearest foot;i.e., 125 = 12 and 126 = 13. There will be no minimum square footagerequired for attic insulation in this program. Attic knee walls over 12 in height are to be insulated with R11 batts for 2 x4 construction or R19 for 2 x 6 construction. R11 batts are to be billed atthe same contractual price as R19 attic insulation and R19 batts at the samecontractual price as R30 attic insulation. Handling of the insulation hose shall be a two-person job to ensure that whilefeeding the hose into the attic, furniture and doorways are not marred by thehose. All cutting of fiberglass batts for blocking or baffling purposes shall occuroutside of the house. When the insulation crew has finished insulating the attic, they shall vacuumthe carpet between the entrance and the attic access hole to ensure health,safety and customer satisfaction. All attics must have an easy and safe access for installation and inspection.All attics must be structurally adequate to support the weight of the installerand the insulation. Attics may not be insulated when roof leaks are present. If the Contractordetects a roof leak, the Contractor should notify SMUD immediately. Allliability for ceiling repair, which results from insulation installed in a housewith a leaky roof, shall be the sole responsibility of the Contractor.Contractors who attempt roof repair work should understand that they are SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT IFB NO. 150406.KN150406 KN IFB Low Income Weatherization 2016.docx IFB Craft Service.dotm 2-4solely responsible for any and all liability, expenses and repair work arisingfrom their repair work. If the Contractor installs attic insulation on a non-feasible attic without preapproval,SMUD will not pay for the insulation portion of the job. Atticinsulation should not be installed when the following conditions exist:a. 24 or less between bottom of rafter and top of joist at center of attic.b. Structure contains no attic, i.e., flat roof.c. Attic is not properly ventilatedd. There is no attic access.e. The attic access is less than 14 x 18.f. The attic access is through a turbine vent.g. Existing leaks in roof.h. Sagging sheetrocki. Attic is over non-conditioned space.j. In a drop ceiling unless fiberglass batts are used.k. In wood board ceilings, unless plastic is first put down to preventinsulation from filtering into conditioned spaces.l. Cathedral ceilings shall not be insulated. Certification (Attic Card)A Notice of Certification will be posted in the attic near the access (closesttruss). The Contractor will list the previous R-value, square footage, R-valueadded and type of insulation added, Date of Installation and ContractorsContact information. Attic Rulersa) Rulers shall be scaled to read inches of insulation as well as R-value for thecorresponding type of insulation thats installedb) Attic rulers will be distributed 1 ruler/250 square feet and clearly readablefrom the attic access
