Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:The purpose of this research is to demonstrate full-scale deployment of innovative, cost competitive energy and water saving technologies for the commercial, industrial and water/wastewater sectors. Technologies must be pre-commercial but may have been demonstrated at a small scale in the targeted sectors. All demonstrations must include advanced energy efficiency and water saving projects that must result in a direct reduction of electricity use at the demonstration site. Full scale deployment is defined as follows:Installation in at least one industrial or commercial facility,Installation in at least one water/wastewater treatment facility. If multiple applications are submitted using the same company or brand for the major equipment/systems, only the highest ranking application will be considered. For instance, if there are two separate applications that use the same company or brand for the major equipment/systems, only the one with the highest ranking will be considered. However, an application can include multiple demonstration sites that use the same company or brand of equipment, up to the maximum award amount. Each project must:Include a demonstration location, including addressShow actual energy reductions due to on-site energy efficiency improvements. The energy savings must come from the energy efficiency improvements.Aerobic or anaerobic treatment processes are acceptable (but not required)Demonstrate advanced, innovative water or wastewater treatment techniques that result in water reduction, water re-use, water recycling or water production for on-site or regional use.Result in overall net energy savings for the demonstration facility due to the energy efficiency and water or wastewater treatment techniques deployed.Demonstrate that the pre-commercial technologies are beyond pilot-scale testing and are ready for large-scale/community-wide deployment.Evaluate the performance interactions between energy, water behavior and market impacts associated with the technology.Investigate and document the benefits and barriers associated with large scale deployment.Investigate and document the role of end-user behavior, and how to ensure sustainable, long term actual energy and water savings in the demonstration facilities.Include ongoing monitoring and verification of energy and water savings and benefits for a period of 12 months (see also Section II.B.5) and the persistence and sustainability post-EPIC funding.
