Specifications include, but are not limited to:These Specifications cover Iridium GPS telemetry collars with a VHF beacon and mortality sensor to perform black-tailed deer survival and abundance estimates. Getting these estimates will require deploying collars on both male and female deer. Collars for male deer need to expand to accommodate neck swelling due to hormonal secretions. General RequirementsThe data collection for survival and abundance estimates is a minimum of 24 months and requires a collar capable of real-time modifications in collar scheduling, a timed or remote break-away mechanism, and for male deer collars, a built in expanding section to accommodate neck swelling during the breeding season. The interior and edges of collar must be smooth with no edges that could chaff or cut the neck of a deer.Expanding section for male deer must be a simple elastic section that will retain its elasticity and not deteriorate due to environmental conditions for two (2) years.Electronic components shall be shock resistant and waterproof.Data must be stored in non-volatile memory.All airtime and/or subscription fees (for two (2) years) for the collars shall be included in the quote.Collars shall have web data server access for the life of the collars so data can be viewed immediately after data transmission on programs such as Google Earth.All castings, collar, collar fastening hardware, and the necessary supporting software, data converters, cables and adapters specific to each collar must also be included. Technical RequirementsCollar weight shall not exceed 700 grams including breakaway mechanism.Range of collar expansion for male collars shall be from 30-60cm.Shall be capable of acquiring two (2) GPS fixes per day and daily Iridium reporting.Shall have a two (2) year battery life.Collars shall be programmable through PC windows based software.Programmable break-away mechanism.Be capable of sending a mortality alert signal via text and email to the CDFW upon collar entering mortality mode.Data files must include and accumulated data file and a Google Earth Compatible file.Electronics and all other collar components must be able to function to -30 degrees to +50 degrees Celsius.
