Specifications include, but are not limited to:The City of San Angelo is seeking a response to this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Texas licensed and qualified firms, with their design team, to furnish: planning, design, design drawings, cost estimating, and construction drawings for work at Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, one of the best preserved frontier forts west of the Mississippi. Firms qualified and with experience on past projects in the design and construction of historic buildings at a multi-building historic site need only apply. It is the intention of the City in going forward with this RFQ and selection process, to retain the services of the best-qualified professionals. A frontier post from 1867 to 1889 and a preservation project since 1928, Fort Concho is owned and operated by the City of San Angelo, Texas. The forts twenty-six historic and support buildings serve nearly 60,000 guests annually on a forty-acre site located just south of downtown San Angelo, the community the fort helped to create in the 1870s. From 1930 to 1995, the forts visitor greeting area was a very small entrance hall in the Post Headquarters Building. In July of 1995, the fort moved its administrative office, gift shop, orientation exhibits, and greeting area to the west section of Barracks 1. While this space represented a major improvement in visitor services, in recent years the space has become cramped and insufficient to meet the needs of our guests. The fort board and staff have identified a list of needs as follows: a visitor friendly orientation space a small (50-75 person capacity) space to show orientation videos and host programs a gift shop designed within a period theme such as a military sutler store a gallery for temporary exhibits and displays restrooms for men and women appropriate space for storage, janitorial supplies, and utilities a small room for staff/volunteers for meals, but also serviceable to support modest in-house refreshments and food for events a gallery with permanent exhibits to introduce the guests to local/regional history within a national context an administrative office for 2-3 people, accessible to the guests but not too close to the area where visitors get their orientation and briefing
