Specifications include, but are not limited to:Provide all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to provide for the removal andreplacement of fencing at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge per the attached specifications andthese Event Details.The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge is located in northeast McPherson County, six miles north ofCanton, Kansas, and is owned and operated by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, andTourism. This contract is to cover the replacement of 12,215 feet of fence in the interior ofMaxwell Wildlife Refuge along both sides of Pueblo Road. The contractor must furnish allnecessary labor and equipment for the project, with the following exception: The refuge managerwill mow along the fence line to expedite the removal of the old fence and the construction of thenew fence. The contractor shall mow a 6 ft wide path centered directly on the fence line once theold fence has been removed, so as to expedite the construction of the new fence.All existing wire, staples and posts comprising the old fence must be removed by the contractor.All of the old barbed wire and staples must be removed from the refuge and properly disposed ofby the contractor. All of the old woven field fence wire shall remain property of the Departmentand shall be rolled tightly into neat rolls and placed by the contractor at a site designated by therefuge manager. Fence posts shall be pulled from the ground. The contractor shall use care tonot break wood posts to avoid leaving any pieces in the ground. On posts that are already rottedoff or burned off, the contractor does not have to remove the portion still in the ground. Thecontractor shall use care to not bend the steel T-posts. All the T-posts shall remain the propertyof the Department and be placed by the contractor in neat stacks at a site designated by therefuge manager. All wood posts removed from the old fence shall be stacked in piles at a sitedesignated by the refuge manager; the wood posts will be disposed of by the Department. Thenew fence shall be installed on the same line as the old fence. The contractor may only removeas much old fence each day as can be completely replaced that day before dark as there arebison and elk that must be confined to the refuge by the fence. The only exception to thisrestriction is approximately 2790 feet of fence that comprises the south side and part of the westside of the catch pen that could be removed all at once and replaced over a number of daysbecause it is not serving as a final barrier to prevent bison and elk from leaving the property.The new fence shall be constructed to the following specifications:Posts:Corner posts, brace posts, and "H" braces shall be constructed first and line posts installed in astraight line between them.Line posts shall alternate between 5" diameter x 12 ft wood posts and 12 ft steel T-posts. Lineposts shall be installed on 20 ft centers with 3.5 feet in the ground and 8.5 feet remaining aboveground.
