OSH houses approximately 658 patients at the Salemcampus and 72 patients at the Junction City campus. Salem patients are mostly involuntarycivil commitments through the criminal courts as either unfit to stand trial or having beenfound guilty of crimes but, because of their mental illness, were found not criminallyresponsible. Remaining patients in Salem are civil commitments, some of whom have geriatricand/or neuro-psychiatric issues. Junction City patients are a mix of those having been foundguilty of crimes but, because of their mental illness, were found not criminally responsible andinvoluntary civil commitments. Both facilities are high security operations.In both facilities, buildings consist of multiple units, each of which accommodates between 20and 30 patients. Treatment occurs in designated centralized treatment malls, as well as on theresidential units
