Specifications

Specifications include, but are not limited to:Task 1. Collect and review relevant domestic and foreign literature; research findings; and information relative to vibration-mitigation devices applicable to structural supports of signs, luminaires, and traffic signals. This information may be obtained from published and unpublished reports; a survey of state DOTs; and contacts with transportation agencies, industry, and other public and private organizations.Task 2. Based on the review performed in Task 1, identify criteria and potential test procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of vibration-mitigation devices for various structural supports of signs, luminaires, and traffic signals.Note:Propo s a l s s h a l l i n c l u d e t h e r e s e a r c h t e a m s c u r r e n t t h i n k i n g r e g a r d i n g t h e c r i t e r i a that will be used in evaluating the vibration-mitigation devices. Task 3 . Based on the work performed in Tasks 1 and 2, propose specific criteria and test procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of vibration-mitigation devices for further development in Phase II. New procedures and procedures based on available technologies should be considered. Task 4. Prepare an updated, detailed work plan for Phase II that includes a process for (1) developing test procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of vibration-mitigation devices for structural supports of signs, luminaires, and traffic signals; (2) proposing procedures for considering the effectiveness of these devices in the design process of the structural supports; and (3) proposing modifications to relevant sections of the AASHTO LRFD SLTS Specifications. The plan should consider validating the feasibility of the proposed test procedures by testing and/or use of available data.
