Specifications include, but are not limited to:This project consists of the removal and replacement of NICTD Bridge 63.372 over EJ&E (CN), Gary, Indiana, 46406. The work involves the demolition of the existing main span (Span 2) through-plate girder bridge, repair existing substructure, erect new welded steel through-plate girder bridge, and crane placement of the new bridge. Removal of the existing girder span and erection of the new span must be performed during a predetermined period of outage of NICTD Track 2 while Track 1 remains in service. This outage period will be 14 days and is scheduled for October 2016. Removal of the existing span and moving into permanent position the newly pre-erected superstructure will take place utilizing rapid insertion techniques with crane lifts to minimize impacts to CN. Coordination with CN railroad must be performed for the demolition and erection phases of the construction and two short term outages of their tracks will be required for those activities. Fabrication and delivery of the new steel superstructure is included in the contract.
