Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Mental Health Boards are located within the Divisions of Professions and Occupations at the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA, or State). The State Mental Health Boards are authorized by statute, C.R.S. 12-43-304 et seq, to license, register and regulate Psychologists, Addition Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists. One of the responsibilities of the Mental Health Boards is to verify that applicants meet education requirements for licensure. When an applicant has not graduated from an accredited institution, has graduated from an institution in a foreign country, or has a degree that does not meet the specific requirements outlined in statute, education equivalency is typically required to determine if the applicant meets the necessary requirements. The State currently outsources review of education equivalency for four of the Mental Health Boards: Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners (LPC), Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners (MFT), Psychologist Examiners and Addiction Counselor Examiners. Presently, there are different processes occurring, different entities are providing the services and DORA desires to streamline the process for efficiency.
