Specifications include, but are not limited to: The east shore of New Haven has been a popular residential area with homes on the beach facing the NewHaven Harbor for more than one hundred years. Early photos, circa 1910, show closely-spaced homesprotected by a five foot tall stone masonry wall fronted by 40 to 60 feet of sandy beach. Around 1945, thestone masonry was replaced with concrete seawalls behind sandy beaches 40 feet wide. This concreteseawall extends from south of Pardee Park to 110 Townsend Avenue.Project Description:This Project will focus on integrating and enhancing the past protection measures, with specific focusapproximately 500 linear feet of shoreline located between 100 Townsend Ave and 60 Townsend Ave(see map). These residences are currently the most vulnerable with structural damage incurred from themost recent extreme storm events, namely Hurricane Irene (2011) and Superstorm Sandy (2012). ThisProject will not only serve as protection for these ten residences, but also protects a large low-lyingresidential area across from Townsend Avenue.
