Specifications include, but are not limited to:GREEN CLEANINGThe Contractor shall use green cleaning products and processes, and shalldemonstrate such capability by submitting a green cleaning plan to the University thatdescribes methods, materials, and equipment used under the contract. Green cleaningis a planned and organized approach to cleaning that is designed to protect theoccupants and workers' health and reduce the impact on human health and theenvironment. Unlike a traditional cleaning program, a green custodial program takes aholistic approach to building cleaning and goes beyond simple appearances to focuson health and the environmental impacts.Green cleaning products and processes include, but are not limited to productscontaining recycled content, environmentally preferable products and services,vacuum cleaners with HEPA filtration, bio-based products, and products and services Solicitation No. 15032Custodial Services RFP44that minimize the use of energy, water, and other resources. In addition to compliancewith these requirements, the Contractor shall follow all applicable standard industrypractices including, but not limited to those published by the National Institute ofBuilding Sciences (NIBS), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM), and Carpetand Rug Institute (CRI), as well as applicable standards of the EnvironmentalProtection Agency (EPA).The Contractor shall take every precaution to ensure that if available, only safe andenvironmentally preferable products are used.The success of the green program hinges on the principles of stewardship.Stewardship is the shared responsibility for everyone working together to improvehuman health and the environment through the Universitys cleaning program.Information on stewardship, training plan, and other issues can be found in ASTME1971-98, Standard Guide on Stewardship for Cleaning Commercial and InstitutionalBuildings. ( TRASHAll trash must be separated and bagged according to the UL Lafayette recyclingprogram standards!! Please visit the Office of Sustainability website for details( receptacles shall be emptied daily and resulting debris placed in designateddumpsters. This includes all receptacles inside of each facility as well as all receptacleslocated on the outside grounds of each facility. The custodian shall exercise extremecare in placing trash in bins and dumpsters in order not to have trash spill from the binsand / or dumpsters. The custodian shall not place trash in bins that are full. Contractorshall not place bagged trash on the ground around the trash bin/receptacle, but shallfind the nearest dumpster which can accommodate the bags of trash.Waste receptacles shall be sanitized and deodorized as necessary.3. RECYCLINGThe Contractor shall furnish all necessary labor, equipment, and supervision to providerecycling services as described herein. All recyclable materials shall be collected forremoval from the premises. Overflow of materials from containers shall be picked upfrom the floor of the area used to collect and consolidate the materials.a) Extent of WorkIt is the intent of the University to keep the maximum amount of material from thelandfill through aggressive recycling. The University utilizes a single-stream recyclingprogram.The Contractor shall furnish all necessary labor, equipment, and supervision toprovide recycling services as described herein. All recycled materials shall becollected for removal from the premises. Overflow of materials from containers shallbe picked up from the floor of the area used to collect and consolidate the materials.
