Specifications include, but are not limited to:For the next campus core network we are planning a very____________________ (Required)similar topology as the current campus core network butwith an increase from 10G to 100G Ethernet for backbonelinks, and more powerful carrier grade routers, withprobably fewer core nodes (CN) - possibly around 12.The majority of the links from the CNs to the buildingdistribution and access networks will be 2 x 10G Ethernet,with a significant fraction of smaller buildings only requiring2 x 1G Ethernet, and a possibility of a few of the largestbuildings with 40 G or maybe 100G Ethernet. At aminimum, buildings will be connected to separate linecards on the same CN for redundancy. However, whenadditional redundancy is justified, some buildings will beconnected to two separate CNs utilizing multi-chassisLAG. The CNs are combined provider edge (PE) andcustomer edge (CE) routers in the classic carrier MPLSmodel. We envision CNs as an 8 to 10 slot chassis,supporting approximately 10 to 20 1G ports, 40 to 60 10Gports and 4 to 8 100G ports, with options for 40G portsrequired. Unless 10/1G ports are available, a separateswitch or satellite module would likely be preferred tosupport the CNs 1G port requirements.We expect to continue to primarily use Layer 3 MPLSBGP-VPNs (VRFs) but with probably significantly more ofthem - as many as 200 VRFs. For special case Layer 2connectivity across the campus core network, we wouldchange to EVPN, possibly with PBB. Additionally, VXLANlayer 2 and layer 3 capabilities, and/or NVGRE, would beneeded for flexibly integrating the campus core networkwith both on and off-campus data centers as well as publicand private cloud service providers. Other features andfunctionality that we are looking for include Quality ofService, automation and orchestration, role-based accesscontrol for the management of the routers, flowcapabilities, routers that can be fully managed by IPv6
