Specifications include, but are not limited to: Currently, freight rail travels a V-shape route through the heart of the City of Wilmingtonto reach the Port of Wilmington and other industrial and shipping-related sites, causingfreight traffic to move east and west to get north to south and vice versa. The Port ofWilmington and freight traffic in general are expected to increase with the addition ofnew businesses. The current approximately 8-mile freight rail, operated by CSXT, crossesroadways 32 times, creating the potential for increasing major delays as well as publicsafety risks for both rail and road traffic in the heart of the City and on majorthoroughfares. The last mile is a Short Line operated by Genesee & Wyomingthroughout and near the Port of Wilmington. There is one major shipping business, MCOTransport, accessing the V-shape line. This project presents the opportunity to addressall of these issues in one undertaking.
