Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Burton Creek Tributary Stream Stabilization site is located north of WardsFerry Road and south of the Lynchburg Expressway (US Route 501), just east of the terminus of WaterGate Drive. This section of stream is perennial and characterized by moderate to severe channel erosion. An existing 18-inch sanitary sewer gravity main parallels the stream along the east bank and provides themain impetus for the proposed stabilization efforts. Severe stream channel erosion and bank retreat alongthe outside of the existing sharp meander bend (east bank) have resulted in the exposure of the sanitaryline at the toe of the existing cut bank. The focus of stabilization efforts is to protect the existing sanitarysewer infrastructure in order to prevent system failure. The proposed design involves placing VDOTClass II riprap in front of the exposed pipe in combination with channel realignment. The stream will berealigned to eliminate the sharp meander while tying in with the natural geometry of the existing channelupstream and downstream of the project area as seamlessly as possible. Meander radius geometry will bemodified utilizing natural channel design guidelines for radius of curvature relative to channel widthwhile also attempting to minimize impacts to high-value mature hardwood trees. Rock will be placed infront of the exposed sanitary line, preventing future erosion from exposing the line in the event that therealigned channel begins reverting back to its former location. This project involves the stabilization of approximately 145 LF of Burton Creek and is located entirelywithin a stream channel. The erosion and sediment control plan will require pump around system beutilized for the existing Burton Creek for the duration of the project and until the proposed stream workhas been completed. Graded areas shall be within +/-0.2 feet of the plan-specified grades and such thatpositive drainage toward the stream channel is achieved. All stream work shall be conducted in the dryand no work shall be performed in the rain. Planting of all specified containerized streamside and riparianvegetation shall be limited to the period between November 30 and March 30, unless approved by thedesigner with special warranty conditions. No planting shall occur when the soil is frozen. For all plantingtypes, quantities, specifications, and details please refer to the planting plan
