Specifications include, but are not limited to:1)All firewood must be transported in accordance with restrictions under Act 72 of the Public Acts of 1945, as amended, and comply with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Developments (MDARD) quarantine restrictions to prevent the spread of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Tahquamenon Falls State Park, located in Chippewa County, is within the Level II restricted area. For more information about the EAB quarantine, please call MDARDs Customer Service Center at 800-292-3939 or visit Contractor must complete and submit Exhibit C Statement of Wood Origin. 2)All firewood must have had one (1) full year to dry (season) to remove the threat of oak wilt transmission and avoid wood infestation by exotic and native insects.3)Firewood must be split logs from hardwoods, excluding poplar.4)DNR prefers firewood bundles to be 12x12x16 however alternate size bundles may be bid. Bundle size being offered must be specified in bid response.5)Although reasonable variances are acceptable, firewood bundles must:a)Contain wood pieces of varying size.(i)Largest piece of wood no larger than 5x5x16.(ii)Smallest piece of wood no smaller than 1x2x16.b)Not contain more than 10 percent bark.6)Bundles must be securely wrapped or banded. DNR prefers banding that can be safely burned by campers (i.e. natural sisal twine); however other wrapping/banding products may be considered if proposed by Contractor. Metal bands will not be allowed. Each bundle should have a separate handle or handle formed from the wrapping material.a)If banding with natural sisal twine:(i)Twine must be new.(ii)Twine must have a minimum tensile strength of 110 pounds and minimum knot strength of 60 pounds.b)If banding with synthetic twine, twine must be biodegradable and must be non-toxic and harmless if eaten by animals or burned in a fire.c)If banding with plastic stretch film, film must be wrapped 3 to 4 times around the bundle.d)If banding with plastic shrink wrap, shrink wrap must not fully enclose the bundle to allow for air circulation.
