Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets seeks proposal fromdynamic, organized and experienced individuals or organizations to manage the annual activitiesassociated with operating the Vermont Building at the Eastern States Exposition. The objective of theVermont Building at the Big E is to increase the visibility of Vermont products and businesses. Thebuilding provides opportunity for exhibitors to display products, build brand awareness and potentiallyopen new markets and sales channels.Individuals or Organizations should have considerable experience in event management, customerservice, marketing and planning expertise. Contractor will be expected to facilitate efficient and effectiveoperation of the Vermont Building throughout the year, including being on-site for the duration of the 17-day fair, as well as pre-fair set up and post fair breakdown. Specific duties and responsibilities are listedin section 2 of this solicitation.The Eastern States Exhibition or The Big E, was founded by Joshua Brooks in 1916 when he convincedthe National Dairy Show to hold its annual event on the grounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts. In1917, the first Eastern States Exposition took place. Brooks desire was to bring together all six NewEngland states in one location to share ideas and improve regional agriculture. Brooks dreamed ofhaving state buildings at the fair that would showcase the traditional and new products and attractionsthat make each New England state unique.Theres no better place to enjoy the sights, sounds and taste tempting aromas of the fall season than atthe Big E, New Englands autumn tradition and the largest fair in the northeast. Its a New Englandextravaganza with top name entertainment, major exhibits, the Big E Super Circus, Avenue of States,New England history and agriculture, animals, rides, shopping, crafts, a daily parade and a Mardi Grasparade and foods from around the world for 17 glorious days during New Englands most colorful season.On the Avenue of States sits life-size replicas of each states original capitol and fair goers learn aboutthe people, products, and attractions each New England state has to offer, from Maine to Connecticutand all points in between.Title 10, section 51 of the Vermont Statues Annotated, gives the Secretary of Agriculture managementauthority of the Vermont Building at the Big E. The Secretary works with public and private agencies forthe purpose of exhibiting the resources, products, and general development of the state of Vermont andfor advertising its agricultural, industrial and recreational possibilities. In recent years, attendance at theBig E has average over 1.2 million visitors, of which more than 80 percent visit the state buildings. Overthe last three fair seasons these fair goers have spent an average of $1.7 million inside the VermontBuilding.
