Specifications include, but are not limited to:The project as identified in the Barnum Island/Oceanside/Island Park/Harbor Isle NYRCR Plan involves a structural assessment of the Village of Island Park Firehouse; design for the purpose of implementing firehouse improvements and flood mitigation, and the relocation of interior and exterior mechanical and electrical equipment above projected flood heights, in accordance with GO S R s E n v i r o n m e n t a l R e v i e w g u i d a n c e d o c u m e n t . The initial structural assessment of the firehouse will inform the nature and extent of improvements. It is anticipated that extensive modifications to the firehouse may be7 undertaken, including relocating first floor installations to the second story. There is the potential that a flood wall surrounding all or part of the firehouse property will be included in the project, as an alternative means of protecting assets at the firehouse and ensuring functionality subsequent to flood events. There will also be the construction of a garage bay for storage of approximately 50 feet in length by 25 ft. wide, on the north side of the firehouse, to align with the existing building footprint. The space will be utilized for equipment storage, including a trailered Firefighting Breathing Air Supply unit with the capability to fill breathing air supply cylinders that was obtained after Superstorm Sandy. The mobile breathing apparatus is currently stored outdoors. This exposure of this expensive equipment to the elements, especially corrosion causing salt air, would reduce the life of the equipment and may create safety concerns for its utilization. By constructing a new garage bay, as part of the existing fire house, the mobile breathing apparatus and other equipment can stored inside, protected from the elements, in the most critical and advantageous location which can be accessed immediately by first responders. Any disturbance required to complete the project would be confined to the previously developed property occupied by the firehouse and its parking areas
