Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Gypsy Moth (Lymantria dispar) is a pest that feeds on the leaves of different species of trees in North America.Areas in North Carolina that are infested are treated as a statewide strategy to slow the spread. Oaks are thepreferred host; however, when oaks are not available, the gypsy moth caterpillars will feed on the foliage of plantsand many other species of trees. Left untreated and it can reduce tree growth and cause branch dieback or treemortality. Though the efforts of the Department to provide treatment in effected areas, it helps to reduce thepopulation and prevent trees in urban and rural forested habitats from damage.
