Specifications include, but are not limited to:Group Therapy in Asian Communities is intended to deliver training services to clinical staffin order to enhance their therapeutic skills when working with Asian American consumersin a group therapy setting. The Asian American communities continue to struggle withacceptance of mental health illness, treatment and recovery, which is reflective ofdifficulties working with this community in a group setting. Stigma and traditional beliefsstill remains strong in these communities, especially in older generations and recentlyimmigrated. This training will teach clinicians the importance of engaging consumers asan integral part of treatment. It will also allow clinicians working with these populations tobetter interact with and treat mental health consumers in a group setting by teaching aboutthe unique needs of this community.This training will consist of two Phases. During the first Phase, the vendor will deliver, to 50DMH clinicians, a one day (6 hour) training on enhancing group therapeutic skills whiletaking into consideration the unique needs of the Asian American community. This phasewill be strictly didactic and ill allow for interactive learning for each participant in order toenhance their knowledge with the necessary curriculum.The second Phase will afford select participants from Phase 1, from up to 3 separateDMH-identified programs, technical assistant for enhancing or implementing group therapysessions to the Asian American communities utilizing the CBT or Solution Focused Model.These groups will work with consumers diagnosed with illnesses such as depressionand/or anxiety. DMH will recruit 3 DMH sites, where participants from Phase 1 can receiveadditional training/technical assistance to effectively execute the lessons learned duringthe didactic phase. Each of the 3 programs will work with the vendor to ensure eachreceive up to 17 hours of technical assistance necessary to implement or enhance skilledlearned in the program. The agencies will receive instruction from the presenter whileasking questions about topics such as group etiquette, therapy techniques and culturalconsiderations. Participating mental health programs will have the choice to receivetechnical assistance via phone or in-person. As part of the technical assistance hours, thetrainer, at the request of the program or trainee, may be required to sit in during groupsessions to evaluate, first hand, the gaps exhibited by the participant. All technicalassistance hours will be delivered at each site, over a period of no more than 4 months.
